How to choose a suitable palletizer?

If you want to choose and purchase a suitable palletizer, it still depends on the actual needs of the project. It is recommended to consider the following aspects:

1. Load and arm span

Firstly, the required load of the robotic arm should be estimated based on the weight of the goods to be palletized and the type of gripper needed. Generally, there is a positive correlation between load and arm span. It is also possible that your goods are light, but your pallet is relatively large, so the arm span of a low load robotic arm is not sufficient. So it is necessary to consider both load and arm span simultaneously.

2. Space and floors

You are free to select any kind of palletizer you like if you are on the first floor and the area is large enough.

If you are upstairs, you should take into account the floor height, the floor's load-bearing capacity, and the way the palletizer goes upstairs in order to prevent any construction-related issues or other safety risks. Because some old factories may only be able to support 300 kg of weight, despite the fact that large robots can weigh over a ton, it is still impossible to control the effective load-bearing range, even with techniques like extending feet.

3. Beat of palletizing

Industrial robots might need to be used in place of collaborative robots if the production line is moving quickly. A palletizer with a bigger load should be taken into consideration if you wish to pick up several heavy products at once. If the speed is higher, an additional lifting system, two palletizing machines to grab a line together, or whole layer palletizing may be needed.

4. Cost

Robot palletizing, servo coordinate palletizing, and gantry palletizing each have benefits and drawbacks that should be considered depending on the circumstances. In addition, the price of the robotic arm is basically positively correlated with the load arm span, leaving some margin but not wasting it.

5. Special function requirements

For instance, some customers need to select a palletizer that can simultaneously meet multiple specifications because they frequently need to switch lines and products and have a variety of products in small batches.

Customers may, for instance, specify that the bag opening should face inward and the cardboard box label should face outward when selecting a palletizer, or they may ask the manufacturer to make these adjustments beforehand.

The choice and acquisition of an appropriate palletizer primarily hinges on the specific circumstances of an individual's manufacturing and packaging facility. Selecting a palletizer with high cost-effectiveness and functions that can fulfill the requirements is advised.
